• The “server” software crashes frequently
• It slows down my computers and or network
• It works with one device, but not the other (for example it’s good for PS3 but not for AppleTV and vice versa)
• Most of them did not stream properly to PS3 and movies would stop every 30 secs to 2 minutes to catch up

I accidentaly found a simple solution for streaming movies to PS3. Recently I bought Buffalo network attached storage device  with 2x1gb drives. This NAS has a built-in media server, simple to configure and since it has all my movies, music and photos on it  – voilla. Family is happy.

I found a perfect software that does an excellent job converting good old DVDs- it is called Cucusoft Ultimate DVD + Converter Suite. You can convert any DVD movie into almost any imaginable format.

Today I tried Nero 9 – disaster and it doesn’t do most of the things that the web site advertise it for. It can’t even playback Blue-Ray movies.

Then there is a Top Blue-Ray Ripper which is the same product as BestHD Blu-Ray. There is a number of this products that are identical with slightly different user interface colors, but essentialy it is the same software. The trial version claims to be able to convert 3 minutes of the movie, but it does not work. It results in 1KB .mp4 file on your hard drive.

I just tried Pavtube Ripper and that one requires another product called AnyDVD form UK.

I remember testing AnyDVD few months back, but that software couldn’t decrypt the DVD all, so it was wasted energy

BTW, this web site http://www.bestdvdconverter.com/ that apparently gives you an honest DVD ripping software review is a total scam as it contains a lot of inaccurate information. It looks like a lot of web sites that are “reviewing” the software exist only to generate download links for the software maker, without actually doing any reviewing.
